A team of 25 shooters from Kenya were among about 400 participants who took part in the Limpopo handgun level 3 championships, over the weekend.

The contest, which was at the Polokwane shooting range in Limpopo, South Africa, gave selectors chance to pick the national team that will take part in the IPSC world championships in Thailand.

Kenya was represented by four masters; Ibrahim Ndung’u, Robert Nyamongo, Sammy Onyango and Thomas Kiilu, as well as host of sharpshooters and marksmen from the disciplined forces and civilians.

The Kenyan team put up a spirited fight under the scorching sun and challenging stages in the two-day event, with Master Ndung’u emerging 10th overall in production division.

Master Nyamongo was sixth in super senior, while sharpshooter Agnes Wangeci from DCI was fourth in lady's Production division.

This was Agnes Wangeci's first international tournament and she could not hide her excitement.

“It is hard to put this feeling into words. I am glad to have taken part in a very big, important and momentous match in my life,” said Wangeci.

“I learnt a lot of lessons from international champions which will help me improve on my performance. I am thankful to my trainers and teammates for their support.”

This was the first international event for the Kenyans.
