Sporting activities to boost tourism industry

With over 50 rally crews, the Kenya tourism sector is set for a score during the 10th ="https://www.standardmedia.co.ke/sports/topic/east-african-safari-classic-rally">East Africa Classic Safari Rally< set for 10th -18th February 2022.

Coinciding with the Magical Kenya Ladies Open at Vipingo Ridges in Kilifi County, another global event, the tourism industry is set to reap big from the participants and presents a good opportunity to sell Kenya as a leading tourism destination.

Tourism marketing agency, Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) CEO, Dr Betty Radier says that Safari Rally events will enhance a destination’s attractiveness and competitiveness.

“Due to the kilometres and routes covered in the destination, motorsport puts a focus on attractions and enables visitors and prospective travellers to get a glimpse of the destinations’ offerings” said Dr. Radier.

Radier further noted that the rally rekindles memories of the original Safari Rally, which brought together East Africa member states on the global motorsport map and earned an unassailable reputation as the world's toughest rally.

The hospitality industry which was majorly affected with the advent of Covi-19, will see a beehive of activities as sponsors and participants in the two events.

Additionally, the events will give participants an opportunity to enhance their sporting culture and patriotism.

In the Safari Rally Classic, the cars will race through 18 stages which include Naivasha, Nakuru, Amboseli, Taita Hills before settling at the Watamu.

These are pillars to the tourism sector while boosting the Kenyan economy and the Rally will showcase what the destination has for both the domestic and international travelers.

Hotels along the route set to cover 5000 kilometers across the 11 counties will report full bed capacity bookings.

The classic rekindles the spirit of the original Safari Rally, which puts Kenya and East Africa on the global motorsport map and earned an unassailable reputation as the world’s toughest rally. 

With the Magical Kenya Open Ladies event which has attracted over 100 golfers, Sports, Culture and Heritage Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed said they are pleased to host the event.

“We warmly welcome all players to Kenya and wish everyone a rewarding experience in our magical country,” said Amina.
