Irene Ndunda of KDF shines at the ladies-only shooting championship

Chalbi team from NIS braved the cold weather on Sunday, 11 July at the International Pistol Shooting Confederation (IPSC) fixture, to emerge the overall winners in group category under the Kenya Sports Shooting Federation (KSSF), ladies-only shooting contest.
The National Police who put up a spirited fight finished second while KDF settled in the third position at the Pistol, Rifle and shotgun showpiece staged at the Jockey Club shooting range in Ngong Racecourse.
The contest which was sponsored by Seagas Ltd and Site Systems Ltd was staged in several categories and presented an opportunity for Defence Forces ladies, media houses and corporate industry individuals to battle it out for podium positions.
As her colleagues escorted her with a match of honour to the front, Irene Ndunda of KDF danced to the podium after winning the individual's category champion and pocketing a cash prize of 100,000 shillings and a trophy among other prizes.
Top sharpshooter Belinda Akoth of Recce followed in second place pocketing a cash prize of 50,000 shillings while Irene Wanjiku from GSU finished third becoming 30,000 shillings richer.
The civilian category was won by Elizabeth Cherono, followed by Monica Kahura while Mary Mungai settled in the third position.
In the media category, Rotuno Kwonyike of Standard Group scooped podium position while her counterpart Caroline Obuya was runners up.
In corporate industry, KQ scooped podium position, followed by Suzuki Swift and Standard Group respectively.
The event was graced by first lady Major General Fatma Ahmed who also took a swipe at the contest as a guest using a shotgun.
The ladies-only shoot is meant to encourage more women both from the defense forces and civilians to join the sport.
