Kwale County will host this year's Mashujaa Day celebrations on October 20 at Kwale Stadium.

The event will focus on the theme of affordable housing, a key initiative of President William Ruto.

The government says various sectors will showcase progress made in affordable housing and other national programs.

Preparations are underway to complete the 10,000-seat stadium in time for the event.

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, who inspected the construction on Friday, September 13, said they anticipate a large turnout.

"We will make full provisions for additional accommodation," Omollo said, adding that the event presents an opportunity to boost tourism in Kwale.

"We expect the local economy to grow and see increased activity during and after the celebrations," he noted.

This will be the first time Kwale hosts a national event of this scale.

Last year's Mashujaa Day was held in Kericho County.
