A girl in Kilifi county is among top achievers in the 2024 KCSE examination.

Grace Sidi Karisa of Bahari Girls, scored A of 83 points.

''I used to set aside extra time to study. I wanted to prove that coming from a humble background cannot stop me from achieving my dream,'' she said.

She aspires to be a neurosurgeon after witnessing many patients with neurological disorders.

Grace hopes to study medicine at the University of Nairobi.

The encouraged other students work hard and achieve their dreams.

"I have had some of the girls who are in my school come and tell me that they would really want to surpass my mark and this makes me proud being a pacesetter for all those who come after me," she said.

Grace said she owed her success to her parents and teachers.

Her father Pascal Karisa said being closer to her daughter and encouraging her enabled her to attain good grades.

''Every time she did her exams, it was a must for me to check on how she had performed. If she had done well I would congratulate her and give her a gift. When she had low marks, I always encouraged her to pull up her socks," said Karisa.

The principal, Mary Hamaro said the school produced one A, 14 A-, several B+ and C.

''I am excited because history has been made while I am at the helm of this school. Last year, we did very well and this year we have done even better. So we want to thank God, the parents, and the Ministry of Education," she said.

Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung'aro congratulated Grace and other students who did well and promised to sponsor their university education through the county bursary kit.

''Congratulations to Grace for being the first-ever female student in our county to get A. I also want to congratulate other students who have done well in this exam. We are expecting to sponsor them to university this year," he said.

Other leaders who congratulated Grace are Kilifi North MP Owen Baya and Mariakani MCA Martha Koki.
