Humphrey Wattanga appointed new KRA boss

Treasury CS Njuguna Ndung'u has appointed Humphrey Wattanga Mulongo as the new Commissioner General of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
In a gazette notice dated August 22, Ndung'u said that Mulongo will serve for a period of three years effective August 22, 2023.
He replaces Githii Mburu who tendered his resignation in February 2023, after serving for three years and seven months.
After his exit, Rispah Simiyu took the reins at Times Tower in an acting capacity.
Mburu's exit came in the midst of a shake-up that affected several heads of departments.

After his resignation, KRA Board Chairman Antony Mwaura said Mburu left to pursue personal interests.
Mulongo holds a bachelor's degree in Biochemical Sciences from Harvard University and a Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of Pennsylvania.
Between 2001 and 2002 Mulongo worked as a marketing and development manager for SBC Communications in the USA. Prior to that, he was a Marketing strategy and business development manager for Agillion Inc.
Between 2004 and 2017, he was a senior partner at Afcorp Investments in South Africa, in 2017 he moved back to Kenya where he was a commissioner and the Vice Chairperson of the Commission on Revenue Allocation, serving until 2022.
In March 2022, he moved to Meghraj Capital Limited where he was the Managing Director until his appointment.
In 2016 and 2019 he was appointed a director for Nordic Impact and Investment Committee member at Kenya Clima Ventures respectively where he serves to date.
