As was in the past, Kenya Prisons Boxing Club will continue taking part in the National Boxing League.

Kenya Prisons Boxing Club Secretary General Bernard Otoo confirmed they are not pulling out of the league championships anytime soon.

The league is scheduled to begin in May. He said they are in the process of fulfilling the demands set by Boxing Federation of Kenya (BFK), which required them to conduct elections and submit their returns to the Registrar of Sports (ROS).

However, Otoo said they held their elections in 2023 for a four-year term with the next polls coming in two years in 2027, but only needs to replace their retired chairman Kennedy Aluda in the current executive.

Otoo said they are in the process of making their submissions of these elections done two years back to the Registrar of Sports.

"We are about to do all these but it's a step at a time as we try to get a replacement of our chairman, which has taken some time," he said.

Asked why they delayed in submitting their returns to the Registrar of Sports, Otoo said they had several matters to sort out.

"We have sorted some of them and left with only one; replacing our retired chairman, before we make our submission to the ROS," Otoo told Standard Sports.

After that, he said they'll write to the federation to confirm their participation in the league championships.

Last week, Boxing Federation of Kenya (BFK) Competitions Secretary John Waweru warned the club that they risked being disqualified from the league championships unless they adhered to the set rules. [Ben Ahenda]

"We cannot apply our rules selectively when some branches follow them strictly. We must be fair to everybody," he said.

So far, only six branches are said to have met the set conditions. They are Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Laikipia, Kenya Police and Kenya Defence Forces. [Ben Ahenda]
