Former champions Kenya Defence Forces are perched at the top of the National Boxing League having won the second leg of the league championships held in Mombasa over the weekend.

KDF and defending champions Kenya Police tied on 26 points apiece to jointly win the second leg of the league championships.

However, the soldiers are at the helm of the log with a total of 50 points ahead of Police at 26 points who missed the first leg in Kisumu in June.

Police captain Boniface Mogunde said they’ll catch up with the soldiers in the chase for the league title.

“By the end of the league championships, we’ll have beaten them (KDF) but we are taking one league assignment at a time,” Mogunde told Standard Sports.

In the overall league standing, Nairobi County are third with 21 points having finished in the same position in Mombasa with seven points after they tied with Kenya Prisons who also failed to travel to Kisumu during the first leg of the league championships.

Kibra finished fifth in Mombasa with six points ahead of Kenyatta National Hospital, Kwale, Vihiga and Mombasa, all who tied with three points each.

Githurai 44 and Nakuru ABC tied with two points each to finish 12th with Mbaraki and Kisumu tying with a point each.

Four teams in Bungoma, Laikipia, Kongowea and Molo finished at the bottom without a point.
