SCHOOLS: Ng'iya Girls, St Mary's School Yala and Nyamira Girls shine in Siaya County

Ng'iya Girls National School, St Mary's School Yala and Nyamira Girls continued to showcase their prowess at the ongoing Siaya County Secondary School Term One games at Siaya MTC after qualifying for the semifinals of basketball, handball, rugby and hockey.
Ng'iya Girls on Friday hammered Nyamira Girls 61-22 to book a spot in the semifinals of the girls' basketball with a game to spare as they continue to pursue their goal of dethroning champions Barchando.
The Naftali Ambala-coached outfit begun the games on the front foot on Thursday after thrashing Lwak Girls 82-22, to announce their intentions of winning the Siaya County basketball girls title clearly known.
Speaking after securing their semifinals, Ng'iya coach Ambala said they have now shifted their attention to the knockout stages.
"The girls are playing really well and I am happy so far our strategies are working and tactics are destroying our teams. The girls are hungry, shooting the ball well and defending well. All we need to do is play even better in the knock out stage," said Ambala.
Ng'iya are in Group B alongside Rangala Girls, Nyamira Girls and Lwak Girls.
In handball, St Mary's Yala journey towards ending their six-year absence at the regional games is progressing well after qualifying for the semifinals with a game to spare.
Yala on Thursday stunned defending champions Rangala Boys 27-26 to top Group A before sealing their last four spot with another tight 31-30 win over Usenge High School.
In hockey, East African champions Nyamira Girls maintained their dominance in the sport after scoring 20 goals in two matches.
Nyamira who are also the Siaya County champions humiliated Nyawara Girls 14-0 on Thursday before thrashing Ng'iya Girls 6-0 to qualify for semis.
Other results saw Yala see off Sirembe 3-0, Chianda beat Ambira 1-0 and Lwak edge Mbaga Girls 2-0.
In rugby, multiple Siaya County champions Yala also booked a semis spot after thrashing Bondo Township 49-0 on Friday.
Yala begun the games with a 48-5 win on Thursday as head coach Kenneth Mukok works towards returning to nationals.
"We are taking it a game at a time. We know what we need to do at this level and increase the intensity a game at a time," said Mukok.
