Champions Serani off to winning start as Mombasa games start

Defending champions Serani Secondary School made their statement clear after they beat Khadija Secondary School 2-0 as Mombasa County Secondary School games started Thursday.

Coached by Swaleh Sunda, Serani who are the national boys under-16 champions, did not waste time after the first whistle, as Salim Hamisi notched the opener in the sixth minute before Kamal Ali added the second.

With a 2-0 triumph, Serani ensured they remain focused on retaining their title.

Serani lost to Shimba Hills School in the Coast region boys football final in 2019, but this time round, they have sounded the war cry ahead of the regional championships next week when the games are held in Mombasa.

In another match at the Shimo La Tewa School, former champions Tononoka School hit Concordia School 2-0 with Ibrahim Kalato and Jacob Otieno scoring in the 17th and 57th minutes respectively.

Two boys and four girls football matches will be played today before paving way for the semifinals and finals in the afternoon.

In boys' football, Likoni School play Concordia, while Serani take on Bomu School. In girls' category, Jomvu will face Kaa Chonjo, Vallery meet Mrima, Bomu play Mama Ngina, while Marimani face Moi Forces Academy.

In boys' volleyball, Vallery Macmillan upset Khamis School 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-13) to remain in title contention.

In netball, Miritini Secondary School defeated Al Farsy Girls 27-5 after leading 17-1 at half time.

St Charles Lwanga silenced Mama Ngina Girls 22-6 after taking a comfortable 15-2 lead at the breather in another netball match.

The winners went ahead to humiliate Puma 26-0 while newcomers Light International School silenced Mama Ngina School 19-4.

In boys' handball, Moi Forces hit Misisipi School 14-2. In girls' handball match, Puma School defeated Kaa Chonjo Secondary School 4-1 in a low-key match. Changamwe School beat Kaa Chonjo 6-2.

In girls' basketball, Mama Ngina laboured to edge out Oshwal Academy, Nyali 29-25 at Shanzu Teachers Training College.

Meanwhile, Kwale County games that were to start Thursday have been rescheduled for tomorrow and Sunday at Kinango Secondary School.
