St Patrick's Segere Mixed Secondary School athletics duo of Winnie Adhiambo and Bertrand Okoth have defied all odds, securing their spots in the ongoing Nyanza Region Secondary School Term One games in Kisumu.

Adhiambo, a determined Form One student, punched her ticket to the regionals by showcasing her prowess in the 5000m walking race girls category during the Siaya County games held just two weeks ago.

Under the guidance of their Principal Ngala Mbuor, Segere is on a mission to demonstrate that Siaya and the broader Nyanza region can excel in athletics, traditionally dominated by athletes from the Rift Valley region.

Adhiambo, reflecting on her achievements thus far, expressed her drive, stating, "I am fueled by the desire to prove that talent knows no boundaries. My ultimate goal is to make my school, my county, and my region proud through athletics."

Meanwhile, Okoth, a Form Two student, is set to compete in cross country, adding to Segere's promising athletic lineup.

George Omondi, the dedicated head coach of Segere's athletics team, radiated optimism, emphasizing the rigorous training and preparation the team has diligently undertaken.

"We have been training relentlessly, focusing on both physical fitness and mental strength. I am confident that Winnie and Bertrand will showcase their talent and determination on the regional stage," Coach Omondi remarked.

Principal Ngala Mbuor, also serving as the Vice Chair of the Nyanza Region Secondary School Sports Association games, voiced his unwavering belief in his students and the importance of supporting sports within the school.

"At Segere, we believe in nurturing holistic development in our students. Sports play a crucial role in instilling discipline, teamwork, and resilience. I am immensely proud of Winnie and Bertrand's accomplishments, and I fully support their athletic endeavors," Principal Mbuor affirmed.

As St Patrick's Segere Mixed Secondary School ventures into the competitive arena of the Nyanza Region Secondary School Term One games, all eyes are on Adhiambo and Okoth as they strive to leave an indelible mark, not only for their school but also for their community and region.
