It is a sad day for Kenya at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games after missing out on a podium finish in the three consecutive events that happened on Sunday midday.

With the continuing high stakes building in shorter races after the emergency of sprint sensation and African 100m record holder Ferdinand Omanyala, Kenyans' beliefs for a podium finish are growing day by day when our athletes take on to the pitch.

After Omanyala proved doubters wrong by winning the Commonwealth Games 100m gold two days ago, the nation expected Kenya to win at least two medals today.

However, it is turning out to be a sombre day after missing out on the 4x100m, 400m and 10000m walking race finals.

Kenya started the day on the wrong foot after our sole representative in the men's 400m finals Boniface Mweresa finished fourth in the final despite entering the final 100m stretch in the silver medal position.

A last-ditch dip by Zambia's Muzala Samukonga tore the rest of the field apart as Mweresa deprecated with every step he took.

In the end, the Zambian took gold in 44.66, Briton Matthew Hudson-Smith claimed silver in 44.81 with Barbados' Jonathan Jones went for bronze in 44.89.

Despite clocking a Personal Best of 44.96, Mwera could only finish fourth.

In the 4x100m finals, Kenya's hopes of a first-ever Commonwealth Games relay medal came tumbling down after a changeover mess between Samwel Imeta and Dan Kiviasi.

Imeta had taken off well in the first 100, but the passing of the baton in the first changeover with Kiviasi was blundered and they couldn't change in time.

Mike Mokamba and Ferdinand Omanyala who were on the third and anchor legs only stood and watched as home side England cruised to victory in 38.35.

In the 10000m walking race finals, Kenyan Samuel Githamba finished a distant sixth.
