Team Kenya's Tokyo Olympics kit has been distributed to athletes heading to Tokyo Japan for the 2020 Olympic Games.

Olympics Kenya Secretary-General Francis Mutuku on Friday presided over the kit distribution at a two-day exercise held at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Mutuku said in a press statement that the occasion was to ensure that all athletes and officials receive all the items they need ahead of the games scheduled to start on July 23, 2021.

The exercise comes a day after President Uhuru Kenyatta unveiled the kit to the public in a colourful flag handover ceremony at State House Nairobi.

"I am privileged to give team Kenya their official kit and very happy that the president unveiled the kit on Thursday with the Kenyan flags. We want to ensure that our athletes are well kitted as they have earned the right to wear these special colours," said Mutuku.

Mutuku also explained why the teams are leaving in small groups.

"We are sending the teams to Tokyo in small groups because we want to minimize exposure to the virus as much as possible," he said.

The ceremony was also attended by the General Team Manager, Barnaba Korir who wished the team the best of luck as they continue preparing and leaving for Tokyo.
