Muthoni who is based in Japan, now hopes for a smooth transition to the senior level with her eyes set on the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

“I am ready for the next challenge in life. This victory will motivate me in my next journey which is to participate in the next Olympics," said Muthoni,

“Before we started the race, I told myself that I have to go for gold and I achieved it. I hope my win will inspire other children out there to start running. Participating in this championships has been a good experience and I look forward to representing my country in other future events."

Zenah Jemutai improved on her fifth-place finish in Tampere in 2018.

“I want to dedicate my medal to the Kenyan fans who were not allowed to the stadium because of the Covid-19 pandemic," said Jemutai.
