The Anti-Corruption Court in Nairobi has set May 27 as the mention date for the case in which former Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario and other sports officials are charged in Sh55 million Rio Olympic Games scandal.

Yesterday, Chief Magistrate Elizabeth Juma gave prosecution 14 days to file submissions and serve the defence team, who will then file theirs 10 days after prosecution serves them. Submissions will be highlighted during the mention.

The court has since ruled that Wario and other sports officials, who have been charged and denied several graft charges levelled against them, have a case to answer.

Wario has been charged alongside Haron Komen Chebet, who served as Director of Administration and Patrick Kimithi Nkabu, Richard Tirus Ekai, Stephen Kiptanui Soi and Francis Kanyili Paul.

The former sports officials have been implicated in the misappropriation of over Sh55 million that was set aside for the 2016 Rio Olympic Game. Others are Richard Bura and Monica Sairo.
