A case of mistaken identity forces a bumbling entrepreneur to team up with a notorious assassin in hopes of staying alive.

Thumbs up:

The Man From Toronto is a buddy action-comedy presented to Netflix by Patrick Hughes. He is the same person who directed the hilarious action-duo movies The Hitman’s Bodyguard and Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard. And it goes from the director to the stars who have done excellent team-up films, including Kevin Hart from buddy movies like Get Hard and Woody Harrelson from team movies like Zombieland and Zombieland: Double Tap.

Woody was in his element with that role, it was perfect for him, but lacked the menace the higher rating would allow.

In one word, the film was okay; it provided a decent number of laughs and some reasonably exciting moments.

Thumbs down:

Disappointing that in every movie, Kevin Hart appears whenever he wants and talks non-stop in a whiny voice while pointing out the obvious like it would be amusing, except it is not. The plot is dull so the story drags on despite lots of action, albeit forced. Even the characters are not likable.

Harrelson and Hart have no chemistry. For a rumoured $75 million budget, the CGI was poor, especially with the explosions. If you enjoy Kevin Hart’s comedy, you won’t mind this, although it is easily forgettable.

Verdict: Hardly a must-see, just a popcorn flick and nothing more.
