Mukhi suspended and summoned by AIFF in age-fraud case

Indian footballer Gourav Mukhi has been suspended for six months for pretending to be 16 years old and league's youngest ever goalscorer.

Mukhi, who made history in the Indian Super League when he became their youngest goal scorer in October at the age of 16, confessed to India’s governing soccer body that he was lying about his age and that he is actually 28-years-old!

According to Daily Mail, in a short statement released by the national football federation, the AIFF said the following:

"All India Football Federation (AIFF) Disciplinary Committee has imposed a six-month suspension on Jamshedpur FC player Gourav Mukhi with immediate effect," a statement from the AIFF read.

"The AIFF Disciplinary Committee found the player Gourav Mukhi guilty on the basis of the evidence presented by him, his admissions and the statements of Manager of U-16 AIFF academy in 2015.

"The AIFF Disciplinary Committee also observed that the existing registration of Gourav Mukhi, both in the Central Registration System (CRS) as well as the Competition Management System (CMS) shall stand cancelled and revoked with immediate effect, with liberty upon the player/his appropriate club, to submit original valid appropriate documents for fresh registration under CRS and CMS."

83' It took Gourav 10 minutes to go from being the youngest ever player to becoming the youngest ever goal scorer in the history of the #HeroISL! What a way to make your debut ????

Remarkably, this isn't even the first time Mukhi has been busted pretending to be a teenager. In 2015, he was caught trying to represent the state of Kharkhand in an Under-15 tournament.
