Megastar Ciara has opened up about how different it is to be pregnant during a pandemic. In an interview with British Vogue, the Level Up crooner spoke about anxiety and how different this pregnancy is from her previous ones.
Ciara is a mother to two, and she is expecting her third baby. She announced her pregnancy on Instagram before the world came to a standstill as a result of the coronavirus, to the joy of her millions of fans. And then everything changed.
“You don’t hear a lot about us expectant mothers during this time,” she said in the interview which was done on Zoom.
Ciara has been isolating in her home together with her husband, Russell Wilson, and their two children Future and Sienna.
One difference she has noted is the inability for people to visit in anticipation of the baby, as they normally would.
Another is how different her doctor’s visits have become. On one of her checkups, her husband drove her to the clinic only to wait in the parking lot until she was done.
“I wanted to be really cautious,” she confessed. “I had a little ziplock bag of gloves for the appointment and then I had my mask.
“When the image of the baby came on the screen, I FaceTimed Russ in the car so that he could see. We women carry the baby, but for my husband, being in the room and listening to the heartbeat in real time is one of his ways of connecting. For him not to be part of that was a symbol of this time that we’re living through.”
Like many women who are pregnant in these difficult times, Ciara has had to look for ways to find joy. While she can’t prepare for this baby as she did for her previous ones, Ciara remains optimistic.
“I always ask, ‘How do I make the best of this moment?’” she said, adding that she tries not to dwell on the negative for too long.
To other women who are going through Ciara had this to say, “Hang in there. God never gives you more than you can bear.”
