A businessman accused of stabbing his partner 18 times was on Monday arraigned in a Molo court to answer to charges of attempted murder.

Elias Mutugi Njeru, 35, was arraigned hours after he surrendered to the police in Nakuru.

Njeru as per the charge sheet while armed with a dangerous weapon attempted to unlawfully cause the death of Florence Wanjiku Gichuki by stabbing her all over the body and mutilating her fingers.

He allegedly committed the offence on November 21, 2024, in the Kiamunyi area in Rongai, sub-county, Nakuru County.

Appearing before Principal Magistrate Daisy Mosse, Njeru denied the charges.

The prosecution pleaded with the court not to release Njeru on bond citing the rise in feminism cases.

The court, however, noted that the prosecution did not give a compelling reason to have the accused person denied bond.

“I will grant a bond of Sh500, 000 with surety of a similar amount and a cash bail of Sh200,000,” ruled the court.

Further, the court ordered Njeru not to interfere with the ongoing investigations and not to go anywhere near the victim in the case.

Njeru surrendered himself at the Menengai Police Station in the company of his lawyer Gakuhi Chege who said his client was ready to cooperate in the investigations.

Ms Gichuki was allegedly found unconscious with stab wounds on the head and hands after a fight with Njeru who is said to be her lover whom locals say run a land business together in the area.
