A 34 -year-old woman stunned an Eldoret court after admitting to threatening to kill her mother and nephew over a Sh700 debt.
The accused pleaded guilty, admitting that she had confronted her mother for failing to give her back the money that she had given her to buy food three years ago.
Appearing before Senior Resident Magistrate Rosemary Onkoba, Caroline Chepchirchir said she was under the influence of alcohol during the incident.
The court heard she threatened to kill her mother Mary Jepkorir on March 2 at Kibulugen location in Soy sub-county.
The facts read by the prosecution stated that on the day of the incident, the accused came home at night and demanded to be served food.
When her mother failed to serve her, Chepchirchir locked the door from inside and took a rope that she said she would use to hang her mother with.
The charge sheet stated that she told her mother she was going to kill her if she was not going to refund the money.
The court heard that the mother's plea to her daughter to spare her life and that of her grandson with a promise to pay her back the following day fell on deaf ears.
She was rescued by neighbours who heard her distress calls.
The case will be mentioned on March 23.
