Your leaders have failed you, Raila Odinga tells Rift Valley

Raila said the country's agriculture sector has been affected by corruption, which he claimed is being masterminded by leaders close to his political competitor, Deputy president William Ruto.

"Corruption is like an infection in the foot, once it starts eating up the leg, it will eventually affect the functioning of the entire body. Corruption that thrived in the agriculture sector affected it as a whole," he said.

Azimio also blamed leaders from the region, who they accused of using their positions in the Jubilee government to enrich themselves at the expense of the farmer. They said leaders from the region who are in Parliament oversaw hiking of fertiliser and other farm inputs.

"It is evident that while the fertiliser prices were skyrocketing, legislators from the region did not even propose a Bill to help curb the situation. They just kept quiet because they had a hand in it," said Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya.

Most leaders who spoke in the rallies also accused their Kenya Kwanza counterparts of driving a wedge between Kenyans.

Raila said their competitors are heightening tension in the country.

"Leaders claiming their lives are in danger are themselves involved in serial corruption cases. Instead of scaring Kenyans, they should focus on clearing themselves from corruption charges," said the Azimio leader.

He said Ruto's running mate Rigathi Gachagua is not worthy to be a deputy president.

"Ruto should consider dropping Rigathi Gachagua as his running mate because he has been declared guilty as charged. His accounts have been frozen, a clear indication that he is not innocent," Raila said.

Raila's running mate Martha Karua said Ruto is not under any threat as he claims because he is still accorded security as a sitting deputy president.

"It is on record that the deputy president enjoys massive security provided by up to 276 police officers. If he cannot be secure, who in this country can be?" posed Karua.
