Mandago to boost water, sewage line connectivity

Uasin Gishu County Governor Jackson Mandago has announced plans to improve sanitation through clean water provision and management of waste to boost hygiene in Eldoret town and its environs.

The governor said plans are underway to enhance services pointing out that extension of sewerage lines was in place to address the needs of the county's growing population.

According to governor Mandago, the county has attained 70 per cent in water supply to residents, but is short of sewerage connectivity which stands at 30 percent. 

With the help of France  that is supporting the county through Eldoret Water Supply (Eldowa), the county is set to extend sewage line connectivity to manage waste and avoid risk of spread of waterborne diseases. 

This comes in the wake of reports over spread of cholera in parts of Nairobi and the Rift Valley.

France Ambassador to Kenya Ms Cyril Gerardon during her courtesy call to the governor yesterday expressed interest in partnering with Uasin Gishu in various development projects including improving health and sanitation. 

The ambassador pointed out the need to have more French investments in the county to boost innovation and employment creation for young people.

She said the French government is also working on education programs with the county's institutions.
