The Eldoret High Court has directed that a 37-year-old man who killed his fiancée two months ago to undergo a mental assessment at Mathari National Teaching and Referral Hospital (MNTRH) in Nairobi.

Justice Stephen Githinji made the order following a recommendation by a psychiatrist attached to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret where the murder suspect, David Siloba had been referred to for medical attention.

The Judge directed the Eldoret GK prison to ensure the suspect is transported to MNTRH without further delay for mental assessment to determine his fitness to stand trial.

“I direct that the suspect be taken to Mathari National Hospital to be examined for his mental status before he can be allowed to take plea in connection with the death of his girlfriend, he is alleged to have murdered,” ruled Githinji.

The Judge ordered that the suspect be brought back in court on May 20 to check and confirm if he will be fit to take plea in the alleged murder charge he is facing.

Siloba was arrested by police officers from Nairberi Police Station over the brutal killing of his girlfriend, Fiona Kisuya, on a fateful night at their Mariakani home in Kapsoya estate in the outskirts of Eldoret town.

The suspect is alleged to have cut the deceased into pieces using a panga before stuffing her body parts into a water tank.

Police arrived at the scene of the attack after being alerted by members of the public what had happened and recovered the body before arresting the suspect at a nearby shopping centre.
