CS Simon Chelugui's aide charged with defiling 16-year-old girl

An aide to a Cabinet Secretary was Thursday charged in court with defiling a 16-year-old girl.

Reuben Kiborek was accused of defiling the minor at Sarova Woodlands Hotel in Nakuru.

The charge sheet indicated that Kiborek intentionally and unlawfully defiled the minor.

“On December 23, 2018, at Sarova Woodlands Hotel in Nakuru East within Nakuru County intentionally and unlawfully defiled a child aged 16-years-old,” read part of the charge sheet.

He faced an alternative charge of committing an indecent act with a child.

Kiborek was arrested in Mogotio on December 23 and was booked at Bondeni Police Sation where he was held as police officers conducted investigations.

Police officers attached to Bondeni Police station on Monday failed to arraign the suspect in court.

The presence of journalists within the court premises saw the officers lock him at Nakuru Central Police Station's  OCPD’s office.

For over 10 hours the man was holed up in the OCPD’s office.

It wasn't until 12 pm that a magistrate, a clerk and a prosecutor were seen at the police station's upstairs where the man was locked up. They came out after some few minutes.

Kiborek, also a Jubilee politician from Mogotio, denied the charges before Nakuru Senior Resident Magistrate Yvonne Khatambi.

Through his lawyer, he accused pleaded with the court to release him on reasonable bond terms saying he was a Kenyan and was not a flight risk.

He pleaded he was willing to comply with orders and would attend court when required.

“I pray for reasonable bail and bond terms. The accused is Kenyan and not a flight risk. He is willing to comply with court directives,”  read the application for his bond.

His father who was in court said he would ensure his son attended court.

The court heard that the accused was young and is in the process of setting up his life and therefore deserved release on bond.

The prosecution did not object his release on bond.

Kiborek was released on a bond of Sh300, 000 with a surety of similar amount.

“ The accused may be released on a bond Sh300, 000 with a surety of similar amount with an alternative cash bail of Sh300, 000,” ruled the court.

As Kiborek was being escorted to the cells within the court, his friends and relatives shielded him from cameras.

Police officers also had a hectic time controlling crowds and securing the suspect.

KTN Cameraman Peter Kimani was assaulted by the suspect's supporters.

Kimani reported the matter at Central Police Station and was booked under OB Number 27/27/12/2018.

The suspect's father could be seen trying to grab K24 Eliud Mwangi’s camera to prevent him from filming. The old man also forced security guards in the court premises to open gates to pave way for the crowd that shielded his son from reporters.

The case will be mentioned on January 18, 2019.
