An 80-year-old herder killed his age mate following a protracted land dispute in Naivasha.
The man, 84, died after he was stabbed three times in the chest by the suspect who has since been arrested.
The duo reportedly engaged in a heated exchange before the suspect whipped out a knife and stabbed the victim.
A relative, Peter Karatina, said members of the two families had been involved in a protracted land dispute leading to a fall out.
He said during the dispute period, several head of cattle and sheep had been killed as the families fought over the parcel of land.
“The suspect, who is a well-known person in this village, whipped out a knife and stabbed my uncle three times before fleeing back to his house,” he said.
He was rushed to a nearby health centre where he was confirmed dead.
A police officer who declined to be named said the man will be arraigned in court to face murder charges.
HIGH ALERT
Emotions ran high in Gwaso trading centre on the border of Nakuru and Kajiado counties as the body was collected and taken to a mortuary in Naivasha.
Meanwhile, police in Naivasha have identified Mai Mahiu and Moi Ndabi as areas prone to flooding and called on area residents to be on high alert.
The alert comes a couple of days after an officer attached to Anti-Stock Theft Unit was washed away by floods while attempting to cross a seasonal river.
Naivasha OCPD Titus Munyoki said due to heavy rains pounding the neighbouring areas of Limuru and Kijabe, flooding had become the norm in lower areas.
Munyoki called on residents of affected areas to keep off from flooded sections, mainly seasonal rivers.
