Subukia man commits suicide after killing a cow he had been denied to sell

NAKURU: A 40-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself with a piece of rope on a branch of tree after he was denied to sell a cow in Mihango area, Subukia Sub-County.

The deceased Wilson Waweru Gichohi, a mason allegedly wanted to sell his only cow but being the only economic surety for his family, his aged mother denied him and warned anyone from purchasing the cow.

Confirming the death, the area police boss Alex Ng'ang'a said the deceased, a father of five children and two wives was found dangling on a piece of rope by members of his family on Tuesday morning.

"Gichohi's family is reported to have failed to find him in the morning after he failed to turn up for breakfast and after a short search, he was found hanging dead on a tree at his compound," said Ng'ang'a.

Ng'ang'a said despite the mason having been denied to sell the cow by his aged mother, he killed the animal on Monday night while all members of his family were deep asleep before committing suicide.

The family of the deceased found the animal lying dead in a cow shed with deep cuts on its neck though there was no note form the deceased on the issue.

"The aged woman is reported to have stopped his son from the sale of the only cow he possessed because it produced milk for sale boosting family income," said Ng'ang'a.

Police took his body to Nyahururu Sub-County hospital mortuary for postmortem.

Following the death, the police officer has warned residents against killing themselves at center of financial crisis.

"Death has never been a solution to any challenge in the society. Residents should engage in income generating activities to boost their income," he advised.
