Ongata rongai CID officer dies in road accident

NGONG, KENYA: A Criminal Investigation Department (CID) police officer attached to Ongata Rongai CID, has died in an accident after his personal car was involved in a head-on collision with a lorry along Magadi road, near Maasai Lodge Stage in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County.

Police reports indicate that the officer who was heading to Ongata Rongai from Nairobi was with other two passengers in his car before they were involved in the 4.30am accident with a lorry heading to the opposite direction.

Rongai Police boss Mr.Francis Sang confirmed the incident and said the officer was pronounced death upon arrival at Nairobi Women’s Hospital, Ongata Rongai branch but the other two occupants who sustained minor injuries were treated and discharged.

Sang said the officer’s car might have lost control before hitting the lorry during the accident.

“The CID officer’s car might have lost control before hitting the lorry,” Sang told The Standard.

He said the body of the deceased was taken to Chiromo mortuary and police have launched investigations to establish the cause of the accident.

“Investigations are underway to establish the real cause of the accident,” Sang said.

Also, a lorry which was ferrying goods from Kiserian to Nairobi overturned in Kiserian Bridge after its brakes failed.

According to the driver of the lorry, who spoke with The Standard, the brakes of the lorry failed before the accident.

Nobody was injured during the accident.
