High alert as hunt for SLDF leader kicks off

By Daniel Psirmoi

The search for a former deputy commander of the defunct Sabaot Land Defence Force (SLDF), David Sichei Chemaimak has begun, Cheptais District Commissioner Omar Salat has said.

Law enforcement officers in Cheptais District, Mt Elgon Constituency are looking for the militia leader who has been on the run since 2008.

Speaking to journalists after chairing a district security meeting at the Mt Elgon CDF offices hall in Cheptais, Mr Salat said security agents are hunting down Sichei, a former General Service Unit officer attached to the Recce Company, who is believed to be the de-facto leader of the militia group that reigned terror on residents of the region.

The Israeli-trained Sichei, who was attached to the Presidential Escort and other remnants of the ragtag army, escaped the dragnet of a combined force of policemen and military officers.

Salat reiterated that Sichei was still on top of the list of the most wanted criminals and urged anyone with information that could lead to his arrest to alert the police.
