Polo Action Time

The Kenya Open polo starts on Friday midday at the Nairobi Polo Club, near Jamhuri Park.

On the cards are five main competition matches and two subsidiaries.

The tournament, the most prestigious on the local polo calendar, ends on Sunday.

Chevrolet Captiva (6.0) team of Craig Millar (3), Jonti Barclay (2.5), Jonathan Stitchbury (0.5) and Jojo Barlow (0) will take on CFC Stanbic, which is led by 3.5-goal Richard Stonewigg in the first match at the Stables. Others in CFC Stanbic team are Quintin Savage (1.5), Sarah Griffiths (0.5) and Suki Shretta (-0.5).

Mbugua Ngugi and Henry Limb will umpire the match with Manaan Madhvani as the referee.

Standard Bank Offshore will enter the pitch to face Chevrolet Cruz at 1pm followed by Sandstorm versus Karen Provision Stores match at 2pm.

The next matches will follow in one-hour intervals until 5pm when Dasani face Chevrolet All Stars in a subsidiary match.

Standard Bank Private Clients will face Ultimate Security at 3 with Tall Horse facing Capital FM at 4pm. Standard Bank Offshore will meet general Motors in a subsidiary match, also at 4pm.

The Offshore team will feature South African international Duncan Ellis (4), Henry Limb (2), Devin Shretta (0) and Emma Beardshaw (0). Cruz team comprises another South African Selby Williamson (5), Phillip Arunga (2), Phyllipa Marrion (0) and Eugene Ngumbao (-1.5).

Leading the Sandstorm onslaught will be India’s three-goaler Ambimanyu Pathak with Chris Foot (0), Kimoi Moi (0.5) and Manaan Madhavani (0.5).

Kimoi will come fact to face with his father Gideon (0.5), who will be playing for Karen Provision Store alongside South Africa’s Brad McGibbon (5), Nicola Barlow (0.5) and Michael Camm (0).
