Enablers of decent and inclusive housing will dominate Habitat for Humanity’s inaugural Africa Housing Forum (AHF) slated from May 12 to 14 in Nairobi.

The AHF is part of a series of global housing forums. So far, three regional forums have been held with the first being hosted in Latin America and the Caribbean in May 2021.

The other two were held in Europe and Asia-Pacific in November and December of 2021 respectively.

The Nairobi forum comes at a time when Africa is in need of solutions that offer affordable, sustainable and inclusive housing with about 238 million people living in informal settlements.

Housing and Urban Development Principal Secretary Mr Charles Hinga urged policymakers and stakeholders in housing and infrastructure development to engage and seek lasting solutions to affordable housing at the event.

“I want to thank  Habitat for Humanity Africa for choosing Kenya to be the host of this event. It is noted that it is the first-ever event of its kind in Africa, meaning that Kenya is gaining recognition globally as a leader in innovative solutions that foster affordable and decent housing,” Hinga said.

Habitat for Humanity Africa Vice President Maurice Makoloo said the forum will be seeking to explore working solutions to the housing challenges that African countries grapple with.
