The Ministry of Health has reported two new Mpox cases confirmed in the past 24 hours from Makueni and Kajiado counties, bringing the total to seven.
In a statement on Tuesday, September 24, Health Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa noted that the cases are now distributed in counties including Taita Taveta (1), Busia (1), Nairobi (1), Mombasa (1), Nakuru (1) Makueni (1) and Kajiado (1).
The ministry urged the public to follow preventive measures to control the virus's spread.
Barasa warned against touching items used by infected individuals, limiting the number of sexual partners, washing hands regularly and avoiding contact with wild animals.
She expressed concern over misinformation circulating on social media regarding Mpox vaccination.
“We strongly advise the public to disregard inaccurate information that could lead to unnecessary fear and confusion,” she said.
Barasa said her office continues to collaborate with county governments and partners to strengthen efforts in containing the outbreak.
Measures include enhanced surveillance, contact tracing, diagnostic testing and public awareness campaigns.
