Former Kenya Football Federation (KFF) Deputy Secretary General Dan Murunga has joined the new private company managing football.
Murunga was at the weekend appointed the Secretary General of the Football Kenya Limited (FKL) North Western branch.
He said that was the reason he did not contest in the KFF sub-branch elections at the weekend and denied reports he had pulled out on sensing defeat.
"We are in FKL because it is the only recognised body in Kenya by Fifa to manage football," he said in an interview.
Murunga said there is no hope in KFF since it is only recognised locally. "Fifa has already shown us the way and as Western branch we have decided to back FKL," he added.
Backing FKL
Also supporting FKL is Athanus Juma from Western branch alongside Philip Mukui as the Vice-chairman.
Two officials from the Mount Kenya branch Daniel Kariuki and Martin Kiarie denied participating in the weekend elections. They said they fully support FKL and nothing would turn them back.
"We could not engage in the KFF elections since the body was dissolved two weeks ago," the officials claimed when they visited our newsroom yesterday.
However, KFF treasuer Mohammed Omar maintained they would go on with elections adding that those who had pulled out had sensed defeat.
"There is nothing wrong with them decamping, but that does not stop us from engaging in a constitutional requirement that we elect officials before December 28," Omar said. KFF national elections are set for December 20.
