Governors urge Senate to raise threshold for impeachment

The Kirinyaga governor argued that currently, the law allows impeachment on flimsy grounds.

CoG wants the process tightened to be akin to the one for recalling a Member of Parliament.

On the cost of living, the governors want the national government to find ways of cushioning Kenyans.

The CoG vice chair and Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdulahi called for a Special Intergovernmental Budget and Economic Council to be convened to discuss the cost of living and find a solution through the two levels of government.

Consequently, the over 30 governors, who have been on a two-day retreat at the Keekorok Lodge, want the national government to release about Sh300 billion to counties.

According to the Intergovernmental Relations Technical Committee, the money remains at the line ministries, yet the functions were devolved.

The governors want the funds released in the supplementary budget, arguing that the president has committed to transfer all devolved functions.

CoG further called on the government to relax regulations for governors to access grants, saying changes to the PFM Act introduced bottlenecks for counties to access over Sh250 billion.
