Jubilee kicks out rebels amid factional wars

Jubilee picked Embakasi West MP David Mwenje to replace Ms Chege as National Assembly Deputy Minority Whip.

"All members of Jubilee Party that have openly promoted the policies and ideologies of other political parties outside of Azimio coalition party and contrary to the resolutions made on February 26, 2022, be deemed to have ceased to be members of Jubilee Party and be removed from the register of members," said Kioni amidst cheers from the delegates.

Others who were expelled include Jimmy Angwenyi (Kitutu Chache North MP), former Taveta MP, Naomi Shaban, Jubilee Chairperson Nelson Dzuya, Joshua Kutuny, Mutava Musyimi, Racheal Nyamai, Advise Mundalo, Joel Kibe and NEC Executive Director Wamboi Gichuru.

Delegates ratified resolutions made during the NEC meeting on April 28, which Kioni stated invited all NEC officials but had no attendance from the "dissenting faction."

Resolutions made from the meeting and unanimously passed yesterday by the delegates include the expulsion of members who are working with Kenya Kwanza, reconstitution of the NEC, having the changes in its ranks communicated to both Speakers of Parliament and a confirmation that the party continues to be a constituent member of Azimio.

The party has nominated new members to NEC including Beatrice Gabo (Deputy Party leader strategy), Maoka Maore (Deputy Party Leader Operations), David Manje (Deputy Party Leader Programs), Kados Muiruri (Deputy party leader outreach), Saitoti Torome (Chairperson), Yasin Noor (Deputy secretary general) and Pauline Njoroge (Deputy organising secretary)

Others are Jamleck Kamau (National Director of Elections), Maison Leshoomo (National Women's League Chairperson), Agnes Thumbi (National Youth League Leader) and Nderitu Mureithi (Business Council Leader).

"The resolution was that those positions be filled with loyal, faithful and trustworthy members of the Jubilee Party. Individuals who were holding the position have shown their loyalty is with others," said Kioni. The former President asked leaders who are dissatisfied with Jubilee to leave.

"If you can't defend the interest of Jubilee, then stand aside and we will look for those who can do that job. If you've had a change of heart, do the respectful thing, just go and leave us in peace and relinquish the seats we gave you so that we can give them to others," said Uhuru.

Other resolutions included the rejection of last week's move by the Kega faction to expel Vice Chair David Murathe and Kioni, over alleged gross misconduct.

"That due to the illegality and irregularities contained in the decision, May 8, purportedly arising from the internal dispute resolution mechanism and ascension that irregularly purported to punish the General Secretary and the vice chairman of the Jubilee party be and hereby declared anality," said Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru whose words were followed with a unanimous "aye" from the delegates.

But the Kega faction denounced their expulsion as of no legal consequence. Addressing the press, the Eala MP termed the NDC a 'mere political rally', saying the officials who convened it remained expelled.
