Gatundu South MP Gabriel Kagombe summoned over 'building schools' remark

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has summoned Gatundu South Member of Parliament Gabriel Kagombe, over utterances he made on building schools and learners.

According to a letter seen by The Standard, Kagombe is to appear at NCIC offices on Thursday, May 18 at 11.00am.

The commission has summoned the MP over his recent utterances suggesting that every Kenyan child should go to school within their localities, and that leaders from the Arid and Semi-arid (ASAL) regions should build schools within their localities or face expulsion.

The politician argued that children in Kiambu County were denied a chance to attend good schools because the institutions were already full with learners from other counties.

"Our bursary is strained because children from other localities come to Kiambu County to study. Their [leaders] work is to build mansions and malls in Eastleigh. Everyone must study in their respective counties," the lawmaker said.

NCIC now wants the MP to visit their offices in Upperhill and assist with investigations.

"Words that were calculated to be inciting, threatening, abusive and insulting contrary to Section 13 (1) (a) of the National Cohesion and Integration Act," the Commission CEO Harrison Kariuki said.
