Jubilee Party Vice-Chairman David Murathe says the party will hold its National Delegates Conference (NDC) on May 22, 2023, at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi.
Speaking during a press conference held at the Jubilee headquarters in Nairobi on May 11, shortly after meeting with party branches across the country, Murathe accused the opposing faction of the party of being insincere in their actions.
He urged the Kanini Kega-led faction to refrain from imposing themselves by organizing conferences in the streets and bushes, and instead encouraged them to participate in the NDC, where delegates will democratically decide the future of the party.
"The delegates will make the final decision. If you wish to secure a position within the party, it is best to seek the support of the delegates through the voting process. Holding conferences in the streets, as the Kanini faction has done, is not an appropriate means of imposing oneself," stated Murathe.
"The current status is that we are going full steam ahead in preparation for the NDC called by the party leader on May 22 and 23 at the Bomas of Kenya. The people you see here are Chairs of all party branches countywide, which serve as an organ for the national governing council."
Murathe's statement followed Kega's cancellation of the NDC convened by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, citing a lack of proper procedure in calling for the special NDC.
Kega's faction said they seek to clean up the party register before organizing what they termed as a well-planned National Delegates Conference.
However, the Jubilee Secretary General and former Ndaragwa MP, Jeremiah Kioni, insisted that the special NDC would proceed as planned, as it has the support of the majority of party members.
Recently, Kega's faction replaced former President Uhuru Kenyatta as the party leader, appointing Nominated MP Sabina Chege as the acting party leader.
They cited Kenyatta's failure to promote political consultation, engagement, and cooperation among members during his tenure.
Additionally, they replaced party Vice Chairman David Murathe with Eldas MP Adan Keynan and Kitui Woman MP Rachael Nyamai as the National Treasurer.
