Murang'a Senator Joseph Nyutu and Nominated Senator Peris Tobiko have been elected as Chairperson and Vice Chairperson of the Senate Education Committee with an urgent being looking at CBC.

Nyutu and Tobiko said that the Committee's urgent matter is to look at how the Competence Based Curriculum(CBC) is made friendly to learners and affordable to parents promising to work with the task force established by the President to address the matter.

Senator Nyutu said the Committee members will present their views to the task force and listen to what Kenyans want addressed and ensure that the information reaches the relevant authorities and advise the President and Education Cabinet Secretary on how to handle education matters.

"Education is very important to the development of any nation, that is why we laud the decision by President William Ruto to establish a task force to address matters Competence Based Curriculum so as to ensure that our children get the best foundation," said Nyutu.

Senator Tobiko said that the committee will look into ways of ensuring that living conditions for most Kenyans especially those in the pastoralist areas are improved since most children are not in school at the moment due to the drought affecting some parts of the country.

The Education Committee Vice Chairperson will support efforts to provide food to school-going children in areas affected by drought since it has made most of them not go to school since they find learning on an empty stomach difficult with most of them being weak to learn.

Kirinyaga Senator James Murango said that education is an equalizer and that their main role as a Committee is to ensure that all school going age children are able to acquire education without any impediments and they will work closely with the government to ensure that this is achieved.

"Our President has made it clear that education for our children is important to him, members of the Senate Education Committee are going to support him to ensure that this is achieved during our five years tenure," said Murango.

Senate Education Committee members; John Kinyua (Laikipia), Lenku Seki(Kajiado) Margaret Kamar (Nominated), Agnes Kavindu (Machakos), Joseph Kamau (Lamu) and Johnes Mwaruma (Taita Taveta) promised to support the government to make education affordable for all.
