Former Gatundu South Member of Parliament (MP) Moses Kuria has said he will quit social media on Wednesday evening, September 14.
Kuria said he will delete his Facebook and Twitter pages at 6pm on Wednesday 14 September, citing the need to keep away from the platforms as President William Ruto implements his Kenya Kwanza manifesto.
On Facebook, Kuria has more than 794,000 followers, while on Twitter he has 336,000 followers, totalling 1.13m followers on the two platforms.
On Facebook, he goes by the name Moses Kuria, while on Twitter he goes by the handle @HonMoses_Kuria.
"My objective [in helping Ruto achieve his presidential dream] has been achieved. My good friend, William Ruto, is the fifth President of the Republic of Kenya. This account will be permanently deleted on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at 6pm. It was great interacting with you guys. Adios," he said both on Facebook and Twitter.
Things to unite Kenya
The Standard reached him for a comment in regard to his next move. "I want to focus on things that will unite the country," he said on WhatsApp.
Kuria, who is the leader of Chama Cha Kazi Party, lost in the Kiambu gubernatorial election in the August 9, 2022 polls.
He lost to former Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Wamatangi got 348,371 votes to win the seat, independent candidate Wainaina Wa Jungle came second with 237,361 votes; William Kabogo of Tujibebe Wakenya Party, and who served as the pioneer Governor of Kiambu County, was third with 106,980 votes; immediate former Kiambu Governor James Nyoro of Jubilee Party emerged fourth with 99,562 votes.
Kuria was fifth with 24,512 votes.
The ex-MP's planned exit from social media comes a day after Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Fred Matiang'i deleted his Twitter page in unclear circumstances.
Matiang'i had more than 1.3 million followers on the platform.
Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya leader Raila Odinga's daughter, Winnie, also suspended her Twitter account after it was allegedly hacked and controversial tweets posted.
