National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has today held talks with Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua as he reaches out to Mt Kenya leaders as the region's spokesperson.

Muturi said he was committed to forging a political and economic partnership that will benefit all Kenyans.

“I will be reaching out to various leaders so that we can unite Kenyans and seek economic growth for all. Hon Karua is a pillar of this unity agenda,” he said.

Karua offered her support to the Speaker's bid, adding that she will help rally her supporters behind him.

“Going forward JB, you have my unreserved support in this journey. I will walk with you and rally people to support you,” she said.

Earlier, the Speaker had met with the MSME Alliance leaders to explore policy and help businesses survive the Covid-19 pandemic.

Noting that micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) transcend many sectors of the economy, Muturi expressed need for responsive policy interventions and enactment of laws that support struggling businesses.

"I will re-dedicate my effort to ensure that laws debated and enacted are as a result of robust public participation. This will ensure all stakeholder concerns are incorporated and well addressed," the Speaker assured.

He also noted that the Parliamentary Finance and Trade committees are required by law to consult with the people to avoid unfavourably imposing taxes that hurt Kenyans and their businesses.

He was responding to a petition by the traders for a re-look of the current taxation regime, which they said was hurting businesses.

Muturi also presented a cheque to the MSME Alliance in support of small traders to mitigate adverse effects of the pandemic.
