Chaos erupted at Migori Stadium in Migori town on Sunday after supporters of Governor Ochilo Ayacko and Uriri MP Mark Nyamita clashed.

The chaos forced fans and players of Migori Youth FC and Mofa Football Club to flee for safety, with some sustaining injuries.

Police officers were forced to lobby teargas and fire in the air to disperse the clashing factions who destroyed and felled a section of Migori Stadium gate.

Migori County Commander Francis Nguli said they have launched their investigations into the fracas.

"Only damages were reported to us, and we are investigating the matter," Mr Nguli said.

Uriri MP Nyamita, who claimed he attended the football match as a patron for Migori Youth FC, said youths from Ayacko's side pelted him with stones as he was greeting his players.

"Teargas lobbied in our direction, and goons pelted stones at my vehicles, and I came out there unprovoked," the legislator said.

Nyamita accused the governor of the violence, saying that he would avoid events where the governor is present in the future.

Governor Ayacko, addressing residents at Migori stage, stated he would not tolerate violence in the county.

"I am working, and somebody who cannot wait for time for campaigns to reach is making noise for people. We cannot accept this!" Governor Ayacko remarked.

He said he would come out at the right time to compete with those who were making noise, saying that he was not performing.

The governor also accused the legislator of early campaigns and igniting chaos.
