50-year-old man arrested for allegedly defiling Grade Four pupil

A 50-year-old man has been arrested for defiling and impregnating his wife's 15-year-old niece at Pap-Kakan village, Mulaha sub-location in Alego-Usonga sub-county.

The man was arrested on Tuesday evening after it was established that he had impregnated the Grade Four pupil.

Assistant Chief of Mulaha sub-location Marcelus Murunga said the suspect was arrested following a tip-off from the public and is being held at Siaya Police Station.

"We launched investigations after it was alleged that the suspect had been having an affair with the minor," said Mr Murunga.

He said that it was unfortunate that the girl had been defiled for long and the suspect's wife kept silent about it despite having been aware of her ordeal.

"We want to ensure that our young girls are protected to be able to grow to their full potential. Any violation of their rights shall not be condoned," he warned.

He revealed that the girl was taken to the children's protection unit at Siaya Police Station.

"I want to appeal to the young girls to always open up so that they can get help whenever they go through such inhuman experiences," he said.
