A police officer died and two of his colleagues injured after their vehicle was involved in a road accident at Fuludhi Bridge in Ugunja, Siaya County on Saturday morning, October 15.
Police said the three were on their way home after spending time at a nightspot in Ugunja Town, when the accident occurred at 2am.
Siaya Sub-County Police Commander Benedict Mwangangi told The Standard that the three were in a Toyota Voxy heading to Siaya Town.
Upon reaching Fuludhi Bridge, the driver of the vehicle lost control and hit the guardrails. The crash resulted in the Voxy rolling and, thereafter, bursting in flames.
One police officer was burnt to death, while the other two were seriously injured, authorities said.
Police said the injured victims suffered broken limbs.
"Immediately after the crash, the two survivors managed to crawl out of the vehicle, leaving one who had been trapped. The car, thereafter, shortly went up in flames, burning the trapped occupant," said Siaya Sub-County Police Commander Benedict Mwangangi.
The burnt victim's body was taken to Siaya County Referral Hospital morgue, while the injured are receiving treatment at the facility's accident and emergency ward.
