Two Kisii County Assembly Members, former ODM Chairman Samuel Omwando and three others have been arraigned on allegations of planning to cause chaos during the Mashujaa Day celebrations at Gusii Stadium.
The two were arrested on Sunday evening by detectives from Kisii Central Police Station and booked at the station where they spent the night.
They were presented before Kisii Magistrate Court on Monday morning. Police officers were allowed to detain the six until Wednesday when they will take a plea.
A source privy to the investigations has told the Standard that those arrested; among them, an Assistant Chief were planning to disrupt the Mashujaa fete at Gusii Stadium.
All their communication gadgets have since been confiscated by detectives.
Two months ago, Omwando defected from ODM saying he will henceforth support Deputy President William Ruto.
County Commander Jebel Munene could not comment on the matter saying the issue had moved to court.
Yesterday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i rubbished claims that there was a ploy to block leaders allied to the DP from attending the celebrations.
Speaking during the burial of his uncle Samuel Marube at Etago Sub-county in Kisii County; the CS said everyone was free to attend the event for as long as they remain peaceful.
"It is a great honour to the people of Kisii County that the celebrations can be held here. Let everyone accord the day the respect it deserves. Nobody will be allowed to cause chaos," said Matiangi.
