Minor narrates harrowing final moments as her father killed his wife, almost committed suicide

A minor testifying in court moved the court into a somber mood while recalling her father's last statements before her mother's body was found dead in the kitchen on June 19, 2022. The minor, who had been in the house, recalled how the accused, Murad Awadh, sent her to buy Al Kafan (the Shroud). He told her one was to bury their mother and the other one was for his burial. Testifying before Justice Anne Ong'injo while being guided by DPP's Benard Ngiri, she told the court that her father handed her his mobile number, which was presented in court, and gave her his Mpesa number for her to withdraw money for the kafan. He informed her that he was thinking of killing himself. She told the court that they had tried restraining their father to stop him from hitting their late mother in vain, as their mother's hands were bleeding while she was writhing in pain from being hit using a wood-like object. "Our father was hitting mum telling her why she was cheating on him and asking her why she was introducing prostitution in her family. My mother left the room and she tried locking my father inside their room but dad pushed the door so forcefully that our mother fell down. Even neighbours tried telling dad to stop hitting mum but he did not stop." Knife oozing blood Another witness in the case informed the court how the accused, Murad, opened the door while holding a knife which was oozing blood. Hassan Mbarak told the high court that the accused called him saying he was not willing to open the door unless he arrived at his house and after the accused opened the door for him, the accused told him that he loved his wife so much but he was now done with her, without contextualizing the statement. Hassan further told the court that he saw the deceased's body lying inside the accused's kitchen naked in a pool of blood, and realized that the accused person, Murad wanted to commit suicide but he (Hassan) restrained him from doing so. "He told me how he loves his wife but he was through with her. I did not understand what he meant by that statement. Minutes later, he wanted to stab himself but I was able to restrain him and told him to think about their children. He listened to me and returned the knife to his bedroom," Hassan told the high court. According to Said Omar, the accused's in-law, the long-distance truck driver, and the late Nuru had been having marital issues since they were married. The couple had been blessed with six children, though one was deceased. Omar told the court that he saw the late Nuru's body before a postmortem was done and her body had had stabs on her stomach, chest up near her breast and shoulder, and one of her hands had cuts, which he describes as similar to those of fish before is fried. Another witness in the matter told the court that the accused was holding a knife with bloody knife when he opened the door for him. Waiting for jail According to Hassan Said Mbarak, the accused told him all he was now waiting for was to be jailed. Murad wanted to stab himself, but Mbarak quickly intervened and asked him to think about their children. The accused heard him, and he took the knife back to his room. Hassan told the high court that it was the first time he was setting foot in the accused's house since the accused is his in-law as he is married to the accused's cousin's sister. The witness said he found the deceased, Nuru lying naked in the kitchen with a stabbing on her stomach and at that point, he requested for a cloth to cover her. Said Omar also confirmed to the court that he received a call from the accused's phone number but someone else was speaking in the phone and told him that Murad has killed his wife.
