I'm still waiting for county job: Says MP Linet Toto's campaign 'driver'

Gideon Cheruiyot, the boda boda rider who dedicated his time to ferry Bomet Woman Rep Linet Chepkorir alias Toto in the early months of last year's election campaigns, is happy that the young politician has finally found love.
Speaking to The Nairobian in Bomet town on Wednesday, a day after photos of the MP and her fiance Godfrey Kimutai, hit social media, Cheruiyot said there was nothing between them and that he respected her as a woman and a leader.

"I have my family, and now she has found herself a man. If she is happy, am also happy taking care of my family. I wish her well," he said.
There was a perception among some Kenyans that the lawmaker and Cheruiyot were an item, which he vehemently refuted.

He clarified that his relationship with Toto was purely professional- him as a boda boda rider and her as his client.
"There was nothing beyond work. Both of us acted professionally during our interaction at the height of her political campaigns. I was never her lover neither was I dumped as many would want to believe," he said.

However, Cheruiyot, who still works as a boda boda rider, said he expected her to find him a job.
"I would have been a very happy man if Toto gave me a job. I have been waiting for her to offer me a job for a long. I am still waiting," he said.
"We are still in touch. In fact, she is always a phone call away whenever I need her support," he says.

Cheruiyot was perplexed by speculation by social media users about any relationship with Toto.
Toto was aged 24 when she was elected on a UDA Party ticket in the last General Election.
She got 242,775 votes while her closest competitor, Alice Milgo of Chama Cha Mashinani got 43,180 votes.

In the run-up to the election, she was barely known beyond her village and at one time, she was barred from access the then Deputy President William Ruto's Karen residence by security guards who allegedly saw her as an intruder.

After she has sworn in office, Toto returned to Bomet to thank Cheruioyot, who she described as her 'driver' for taking his time to carry him around during the campaigns.
Yesterday, Cheruiyot said his first encounter with Toto at a fundraising event in Litein town.

"We were both on the planning committee of the fundraiser for a student who was on the verge of dropping out of college due to lack of fees," he recalled.
He said Toto introduced herself as the woman rep candidate, which he first dismissed as a joke. It was after they met in another meeting that he realized that she was serious in her quest.
