University of Nairobi Students Association (UNSA) held electronic elections which saw Melvine Thogo Wangari elected as the Chairperson.

The third-year Law student becomes the second woman to be elected to that position.

Ann Mvurya was the first chairperson of UNSA since the association was renamed, from Sonu.

Thogo garnered 24 votes from a total of 39.

“I am truly elated to stand before you as the new president of UNSA. It is a remarkable feat to join a list of past student leaders who were in these shoes, some of whom I have drawn inspiration from to dare this dream,” she said in her victory speech.

The University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellor Prof Stephen Kiama said he was proud of the fact that the institution conducted the online elections in a transparent manner.

“It is quite an achievement that we can now vote electronically,” he said.
