Tanzanians in mourning as veteran comedian Mzee Majuto passes on

Legendary Tanzanian actor Amri Athuman popularly known as Mzee Majuto is dead.

Mzee Majuto passed away while receiving treatment at Tanzania’s Muhimbili National Hospital in Dar es Salaam where he had been at admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.

The veteran bongo actor was rushed on Tuesday last week to the hospital after his condition deteriorated.

He had been battling hernia and was last year flown to India for specialized treatment.

President John Magufuli in is condolence message to the family stated that Majuto’s death was a great blow to the nation.

Magufuli described him as a great actor who propelled comedy and the arts industry to greater heights and his contributions will be greatly missed.

“King Majuto alikuwa kielelezo cha safari ndefu ya sanaa kwa nchi yetu, kwa muda wote amedhihirisha kipaji, ujuzi na uwezo wa hali ya juu katika uigizaji na uchekeshaji na hivyo kuwa kipenzi cha Watanzania na wasanii wenzake, hatutasahau ucheshi wake, upendo na uzalendo kwa nchi yake wakati wote wa uhai wake,” said Magufuli.

Also mourning the comedian was bongo superstar Diamond Platnumz who wrote that Majuto will always be missed.

"May your Humble Soul Rest in Paradise KING...Will always Miss and Love you.”

While crooner Ali Kiba posted;

"Ewe Mwenyezi Mungu hakika Mzee Wetu Amri Bin Athuman (King Majuto) yuko katika dhima yako na kamba ya ujirani wako, basi mkinge na fitina ya kaburi na dhabu ya moto nawe ndiwe mstahiki wa utekelezaji na ukweli msamehe na umrehemu hakika Wewe ni mwingi wa kusamehe, mwingi wa kurehemu.AMIN"
