Director of Public Prosecutions Renson Ingonga has been elected as the new President of the Africa Prosecutors’ Association (APA).

Ingonga was elected on July 10 during the Association’s 13th Annual Conference and General Meeting in Marrakech, Morocco.

He succeeds Egyptian Prosecutor General Counsellor Mohamed Shawqi Ayyad.

In his acceptance speech, Ingonga expressed gratitude and a steadfast commitment to advancing the APA’s goals.

“I am humbled and excited about this role and the responsibility that comes with it. Prosecutors have a significant role in the dispensation of justice and we are joining hands on the continent to ensure this is discharged in a fair, ethical, clear, and firm manner,” said Ingonga.

One of his major responsibilities includes presiding over all association meetings and the Executive Committee.

His election to the position also determines Kenya’s commitment to active participation in international communities and addressing the challenges faced by prosecutors while promoting justice.

The APA, established in 2003, brings together prosecutors from diverse African countries, intending to enhance cooperation, collaboration, and capacity building in the field of criminal justice.
