President William Ruto has been invited to attend a peace summit in Switzerland next month seeking to address the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The invitation follows a meeting in Nairobi on Friday, May 31, between Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and a delegation from the European Union led by Ambassador Henriette Geiger.

The meeting was an outreach on the “Summit on Peace in Ukraine”, scheduled to be held from June 15 to June 16.

The summit seeks to provide a platform for high-level discussions on topics of global interest such as nuclear security, food security, freedom of navigation, and humanitarian issues.

The forum will also create a common understanding at the highest political level for a comprehensive, just, and durable peace in Ukraine based on the UN Charter.

“Heads of State and Government, including President [Ruto], have been invited to participate at the Summit,” said Mudavadi in a statement.

“Kenya remains committed to a peaceful resolution of the Russia-Ukraine Conflict and continues to appeal for a peaceful resolution of the conflict through diplomatic dialogue.”
