Police in Homa Bay County are investigating an incident where a 40-year-old man allegedly murdered his estranged wife over child custody row.

The man allegedly killed Winnie Auma, 30, in Mwirend village, Kaksingri West location, Suba sub-county on Wednesday, before he surrendered to police.

The family said the couple had domestic wrangles for more than three years before they separated.

Auma reportedly got married to another man about 15 km away in the neighbouring Gwassi North Ward.

A source said that after the couple separated the woman sneaked back to her former husband’s home and took two children leaving behind three.

Later, she appealed to the Suba sub-county children’s officer to help her have custody of the three children.

On Wednesday, Auma went to the suspect’s home and found him weeding on his farm with the children.

She demanded to take the children leading to a bitter exchange.

The man allegedly hacked the woman with a machete before surrendering to Gingo Police post.

Suba sub-county Police Commander Caxton Ndunda said they arrested the man and transferred him to Magunga Police Station.

The body was removed to Sindo Sub-county hospital mortuary.
